Hummingbird families continue to "fuel up" much to our delight and pleasure. There are at least 5 boys in our present census. The aerial games and tag play are amazing and amusing. Most have favorite spots
that they return to as they zoom off, often landing in bare branches high atop the white oak or maple trees, 25-30 feet up, where they can gaze down upon their forest kingdom. There is a flowering dogwood by the house that has a very, small, bare branch with 3 short, off shoots in the middle of the tree--this is the favorite perching spot of one of my boys--he's spent most of his summer seeking shelter, shade, or a place to rest and preen there. Cuphea Vermillionaire and Black and Blue Salvia plants are their favorites. Sometimes, when glancing out a window and viewing these plants you'd think a breeze had arrived--as the plants are moving--but it's the hummingbird guests visiting these flowers. They prefer Vermillionaire Cuphea and Black and Blue Salvia plants to the feeders. The little girl, who likes to snuggle and flirt with the Hibiscus buds is still with us too.
