Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 08/26/2016

Number: 3

We have seen 7 total Monarch caterpillars in the past two weeks...first, 4 close together on several milkweed plants on our 38 acre property, and then 3 more a few days ago. Most are nearly mature looking in size. We have brought in two (to watch them hatch with our grandson) and each of them has formed a chrysalis within 2 days. One is about to hatch and we will let it go in our garden near some flowers. A general observation: this is the most Monarch larvae we have seen in many years. We have not, however, seen many adults this summer at all, though.. only about two.
