Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)

Date: 08/29/2016

Number: 1

I have an adult male at my feeder all summer

At the beginning of July it was staking its territory and seeing off at least one other hummer -- I only ever saw two at one time.

The male fed at the feeder all July in the very hot weather -- even when the solution in the feeder must have been 95F. I wish I had known then that I could dilute the solution 1:5 in hot weather.

Then in August the hummer lost interest and I rarely saw him at the end of July through 2 weeks in August. that is until the trumpet vine in the tree behind came into full flower. That presumably attracted more hummingbirds from further away and the male was back defending his territory for the last week, feeding frequently from the feeder and from the trumpet vine flowers.
