Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 08/30/2016

Number: 5

I examined the leaves of a large Common Milkweed that we have planted in a corner near our house. I was delighted to find five larva on the leaves that I examined. There may well be more, as the plant has grown to about 10 feet tall this summer. It started life as a tiny seed that was planted in a tiny pot, then transplanted outside when the danger of frost was over in the spring of 2015. We also planted other seeds as well, but this particular plant really took a growth spurt this summer. We also visited a wildflower nursery this spring and purchased and transplanted some Marsh Milkweed, and other types in another area of our yard. We have been simply over joyed to have seen several Monarch butterflies in our yard over the last 7-10 days which I have reported to Journey North.
