A friend saw a lone monarch in his back yard. He has a country home with a large field of mixed grasses and flowers that include patches of milkweed.
I live just about 7 miles south from his home on Torrey Hill Road. I have not had much luck seeing monarchs, although I have milkweed on our property and in a nearby field. Last year I saw quite a few adult monarch and was able to raise a dozen or more caterpillars to adult.
The winter storm in Mexico appears to have reduced the population significantly this year - so troubling.
