Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/26/2016

Number: 1

This monarch was tagged on August 25th and recovered on August 26th. It had traveled 12.5 k in one day, presumably along the Lake Ontario shoreline. It was tagged at 9:50am by Betty McCulloch at Rosetta McClain Gardens in Scarborough, Ontario. It was recovered on Centre Island in downtown Toronto. The tagging and recovery sites are both located beside Lake Ontario. The day the butterfly was tagged, Project Coordinator Terry Whittam said monarchs were traveling in a "steady east-to-west flow all day." The butterfly was a healthy male that weighed .56 g. Its wings measured 52 mm and their condition was rated 4.5 (on a scale in which 5 denotes perfect wings). The picture was taken by Jackie R.
