Monarch Waystation #271 report: small female monarch watched from kitchen window from 5:22 to 5:30 pm. Female monarch first seen nectaring on tropical milkweed, then flew to nearby Lantana and lingered there a long time. She next flew to a Coreopsis grandiflora bloom, its weight bending the flower almost to the ground. After feeding there mostly upside down, she moved to a tropical milkweed bloom. Then she landed on a non-blooming tropical milkweed to slowly lay an egg. At this point I noticed this female has a bite mark notch in its left hindwing, a window I was able to watch her abdomen tip through as she laid the egg. She went back to the Lantana to nectar & I moved away from the window.
