The female I saw yesterday looked pretty worn out, like she was on her "last legs". but, she was busily looking for places to lay eggs in my wild milkweed patch. She let me get fairly close to her and she would land sort of wobbly and lay an egg. However, sometimes she would go through the motions, but it was like she was "shooting blanks"--no egg would be deposited. I did actually count 5 eggs attached. I was almost expecting her to drop, as fatigued as she seemed, but she kept going to the neighbor's fence row.
