When my husband and I were examining a large 10-foot Common Milkweed plant in a corner of our backyard this morning, we counted 12 larva munching away on the leaves. Some of the larva were large, plump ones, and others were "little babies" with being SO very tiny. We are hoping that each will evolve into the chrysalis stage soon, and that beautiful adult Monarch butterflies will develop. We have planted several different species of milkweed last year and this year. We are very interested in helping the Monarch species to survive. We also donate to a program promoted by the Sierra Club in the interest of assisting their survival as well.
