Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/02/2016

Number: 4

4 questionable chrysalids:
1 - being eaten by a small yellow spider. I noticed the chrysalis did not look good, so when I detached it to move it to isolation, I saw the little spider run, and saw a small hole in the top of the chrys. I destroyed this one.
2- just looked yellowish and bad. Removed it to look closer, decided it was bad, and destroyed it.
3 - I may have injured one when I knocked a jar of leaves over -- this chrys had been hanging on one of the leaves, fell, bumped, got wet...my humble apologies -- i did my best to rescue it, and it is now in its own isolation cage.
4- another that didn't look right, but didn't look all wrong either, so I isolated it.
This brings my fatalaties so far to
-these 4 chrys
2 cage accidents
2 cats at medium size developed weak black mid-section and died
1 - failed to finish emerging and died
1 larva eaten by slug and wasp at the same time (wild)
1 chrysalis "pooped out" while making chrys
1 chrys disappeared -- this was a captive that escaped the cage and built the chrys under the table. One day when I checked, it was missing. No husk, no butterfly, to chrys. I think maybe a mouse got it.
And that's hopefully my entire "bad" list.
