Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/03/2016

Number: 2

One male and one female nectaring on butterfly bushes. Due to local drought conditions there are not a lot of nectar sources available. The female looked fresh and young, the male looked faded and old. I hope they can make the migration. Go Monarchs!

The now tropical storm (formerly Hurricane) Hermine is providing winds around 20 mph sustained with higher gusts from the SE that prevents the butterflies from trying to migrate today (forecast may keep them here for several days). (Unfortunately, no rain occurred here--it was all to my east.) Mostly cloudy, 78 High, 73 low, windy.
