Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)

Date: 09/03/2016

Number: 2

Resident ruby throat male still here--sits on "his" althea branch and vigorously defends the feeders. He has been flashing his ruby gorget as he chases the "interlopers" off. He is especially vigilant about defense in the early morning and later afternoon/early evening.

He is also nectaring on the althea (white) blooms as well as "his" feeder. He defends all 4 feeders but one much more so than the others. He will eventually let the other hummers into the 3 feeders where he is less likely to feed.

Today the wind is bringing down willow oak leaves that he occasionally apparently mistakes for another hummer. He starts off his branch recognizes his mistake and returns to his branch. Sometimes he glances around as if to say "Nobody saw that, right?"
