This one brilliantly colored adult monarch had stopped to feed on the wildflowers at the Craggy Gardens visitor center on the Blue Ridge Parkway, mile marker 364.6, elevation about 5,000 feet. I was really excited because it means the migration south has begun. We also saw a half dozen cloudless sulphers beating their way across the mountains--they don't seem to glide at all.
