We maintain a Monarch way station in our home and participate in the Monarchs Over Louisville gardeners tour sponsored by the Jefferson County Master Gardeners to help raise awareness and educate gardeners thinking about attracting Monarchs into their gardens.

We maintain large stands of four types of milkweed:
-Swamp (this one is the one we find the most caterpillars attracted to in our area)
-Common (this one is the one we find the 2nd most caterpillars attracted to in our area)
-Tropical (this one is the one we find the 3rd most caterpillars attracted to in our area)
-Orange milkweed (rarely have we seen a caterpillar attracted to this plant)
Altogether, we have 42 milkweed plants in our 1/10 acre city plot around our home.

We also keep a variety of annual and perennial nectar plants including:

-Torch/Mexican Sunflower
-Asters
-Purple Coneflowers
-Sedum
-Blue mist spirea
-Cosmos
-Zinnias
-Butterfly bushes (six different cultivars)
