Good Day for Hummer's-Up at 5:15-5:30 am when it was still dark outside. I scared one off when I had to take the dog outside. I did not know they could see/navigate with that little light. I don't think the sun was even up much as I could barely see myself. Non-stop feeding from flower's & feeder's. Many of the birds have their favorite feeder's & times. I do not know if they watch each other but the sequence & the timing of the 1st AM feeding almost seems to be planned like "clock-work" everyday the same. Adult male R.T. comes 1st & he is gaining weight & fairly large, followed by Adult male B.C. to same Saucer feeder near fence away from house & then I usu. hear the male R.T chase the male B.C. around the yard & out of yard. The Adult Female B.C. feeds from same feeder after males have left yard. The female R.T. is happy to slip in near house at kitchen window/or patio after things have gotten quite. She is very quite with hardly any wing sound. Then Juveniles come after the Adult females have finished. It appears that all of the Adults seem to leave our yard for awhile to let the young ones have it to themselves at least until mid-day & dusk when I will see Adults again. The Juveniles have not quite figured out every feeder & mostly "hover" over them instead of sitting but trying to practice sitting & sometimes they either undershoot the perch or overshoot it as they do with the port holes but they are learning. They have large variety of feeder's to practice on. When I take the extra feeders in & place them on our outside Coffee Table to get a "Head-Count" around 6-6:30 pm. They will come right on in under the covered patio near our feet to get to those feeder's also as they are trying everything that is red in color. They have tried coffee mugs, my sweater, ant guards, red wire hanger that are attached to feeder's & every plant that is red, hot-pink, fushia they just love the Cigar plants. They feed off of them like children eating the "candy-corn" candies & they actually have the same color. Those blooms must really taste great to them.
