Saw one adult monarch and one empty chrysalis. Have many chrysalis and a few 4-5 instar caterpillars. Have several chrysalis that are turning black, but overall wild population seems healthy. I did find a black 4-5 instar caterpillar 9/6. I find lots of information regarding this condition in captive raised monarchs, but nothing regarding wild populations. I have a less than an acre property with the milkweed incorporated into flower beds and veggie garden. Is there something I can do to keep the blacking to a minimum?
