I work in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and in the backyard at my office, I have planted a butterfly garden of several milkweed varieties for monarchs, as well as rue, dill, and parsley for swallowtails. We fostered three larvae to adulthood a couple weeks ago. Yesterday, I found one monarch chrysalis on a leaf of one of my Asclepias incarnate plants. I harvested the stem and am monitoring the chrysalis. I will release the adult in my garden in Mt. Vernon when the time comes.
