Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 09/08/2016

Number: 1

Pupa that was being watched since 30/08/16 had an adult Monarch emerge from its' chrysalis today. It was however severely injured in the process and had leaked lymph fluid from near the joint of one of its' wings. It did not fully inflate/engorge it's wings before the veins stiffened and wings hardened. It will most likely not survive even though it was placed near a nectar source. One of the antennae was also injured. (The caterpillar/larvae had not successfully attached itself in a vertically hung position before pupating. As a result upon emerging from the chrysalis today it was injured. As a caterpillar it had also crawled far 45 meters from any milkweed food source before attempting to attach itself for pupating.)
