Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/09/2016

Number: 4

This is my first year planting Tropical,Blood Flower Milkweed. I have the Butterfly Weed Milkweed but it quit blooming two weeks ago. The Tropical grows well in NE Kansas and appears to work well here. Humming birds as well as wasps and hornets like it. I still have several Monarchs feeding on it,and have noticed my first caterpillars ever at the end of July. This is the first year that Monarchs have stopped in my yard. I will grow more this winter,as it's very easy to propagate and transplant. I suppose those with more scientific knowledge then me wil have the final say on the long term consequences of this invasive species, but it is the only plant, other then sunflowers the Monarchs are feeding on. It might turn out to be a boon.
