15:15 sunny 21C, southwest winds at Holiday Beach Conservation Area on Lake Erie north shore. We watched 3 separate Monarchs in the span of 15 minutes attempt to cross Lake Erie between 1 and 3 metres above the water. All were held back by the wind and flew into a grove of tall Cottonwoods on private property where we lost sight of them.
