One bedraggled male missing 2/3 of his right hind wing (scales were bright) and one fresh female feeding on neighbor's butterfly bush. The male was trying to interest the female but she seemed not to be interested. I assume the male had tangled with a bird. He was flying well but I noticed he had an increased rate of fluttering compared to the intact female when trying to keep up with her (his wings were not as efficient due to the damage.)
