I counted nine individual monarchs today before noon, most were headed west-southwest; six passed through my backyard and three were seen on a walk in the neighborhood. One stopped at my neighbor's climbing milkweed patch (laying eggs? no flowers there). It was strange to see them migrate today, as the winds were south-southwest at 5-8 mph (according to the weather services). So they migrated despite bucking a headwind. None were seen after noon when the winds were a bit stronger, also southwesterly. I expect larger numbers tomorrow when the winds shift around to the north.
