It's actually hard to say how many there were. I saw three together (fighting, of course) a few times. There were also many other times when there were two on the feeders. One drove a monarch butterfly off a tithonia. One deliberately poked at honeybees around a bowl of sugar water and slipped between them to drink. One approached me within about a foot when I came outside, and then when I returned with a feeder in hand it came to the feeder and drank from it, before approaching within 6 inches of my face and then darting away.
