I notice the weather report indicating that there would be a NW wind along the Lake Huron shoreline, so I stationed myself at my favorite spot from 10 to 5 PM and thought I would see the first peak wave of the fall migration. We here at Harrisville State Park have had a lot of easterly or southerly winds for just about everyday this September in which I have observed 35 monarchs for the month. Today I observed ZERO for 7 hours of observation. My brother whom lives along the Lake Michigan shoreline has seen many, even more than last year at this time. I'm still hoping for a peak anytime now, and I'll keep stationing myself at the same spot for a few more days. By the way, my first peaks have been on one of the days between September 7 to 16 since 2010, when I have seen 500-600 monarchs for the day. Today the weather was partly sunny with the temperature 49F to start and 64F at end of count, with the wind NW-11.
