Today, when I was releasing and monitoring a male Monarch butterfly that I had captive-reared in a field of goldenrod blooms, I witnessed 3 other monarchs fly into the field and nectar, along with about 4 viceroys that have taken up residence in the field. I can not verify it, but I believe one of the 2 females that flew into the field was a female that I released the day before, on 9/14. At least that is what I choose to believe. 1 male monarch flew in to nectar, and another female flew in. She had a ripped left hind wing, but she still seemed to fly adeptly and gracefully.
