Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/10/2016

Local Master Gardens have a display plot on PSU Agriculture Research land at 2710 West Grove Road, Pennsylvania Furnace, PA 16865. They have numerous pollinator-friendly species of plants in bloom at this time distributed in groupings over roughly a 20,000 square-foot area (with less than half that area having flowers). We saw at least three Monarch butterflies fluttering around the garden at 5:15 PM. Oddly, they kept flying about but we never saw them land or take nectar during the 15 minutes we observed them. During this time, the skies were mostly sunny with the air being mostly calm at 89ºF, with an occasional light breeze from the east.
