Been home-rearing monarchs 13 yrs & have never ever had caterpillars in September except 2016. Still have 6 chrysalises. Had 2 issues of concern in 2016: 2 larvae went limp in the J-ing stage and just recently two chrysalises looked good but one only opened partially then stopped and the other never eclosed. Unscientific diagnosis: OE? Don't have a test kit. Both chrysalises were disposed of and everything thrown out or cleaned with 20% bleach solution. Am bummed out about the 2 chrysalises.
