Fellow monarch researchers, here is an example of a local Texas monarch mating and yes depositing eggs late into the fall (November even). As you well know the migratory population that visits Canada flies back to Mexico with virgin females until they mate in the Spring of 2017.
This is a regular event at this location. Local monarchs appear in the spring and stay here all summer. Hence, I view them as left over ancestors of the Ice Age version that only came this far north 12,000 years ago.
