I work at an airport. I'm only out on the ramp intermittently, so I'm always amazed that a monarch happens to go by when I am out as often as has occurred these past two weeks. I wish I could just sit out there for an extended period of time to see just how many go by in an hour, or some longer interval.
I'm fascinated by the fact that the butterflies that I've been seeing are flying by basically parallel to our primary runway (which runs 60 by 240), and in turn, our terminal. Who'd have guessed we'd be located on such an apparently popular monarch flight path or that monarchs would choose to fly over our concrete ramp rather than any of the surrounding fields.
