I saw a butterfly shadow pass by a sunny window this afternoon. After a few more passes it caught my attention and I turned to look. It was a monarch! It perched on the window hardware for quite a while and then flew off to a nearby cedar. It remained there, flexing its wings, for quite a while. I believe it was newly eclosed. A female.
