Sightings report image

Date: 09/25/2016

Number: 5

This will more than likely my last report for 2016 unless I observe anything out if the ordinary.

We had 3 this morning at 8:45 rating on the butterfly bush and one roosting in the neighbors river birth tree. All moved on quickly to the S/SW as it was starting to rain and the cold front was on our door step.

This pic I posted was the last of this years generation as she was alone filling up on the butterfly bush st 4:00pm. The winds are out of the NW at 5-10 with cloudy skies and a temp of 64 degrees. Forcast is calling for overnight lows at 50 degrees.

Observations this year from Kansas. We had earlier visitors from years past. Monarchs started to show up daily the last week of August. We had a warm summer but we also had above precipitation levels. Plants were in full bloom so the food and water sources were excellent.

We had a good mix of males and females all looked bigger in size than I remember from 2013, 2015 and 2015. All were extremely healthy in appearance. Did not observe any tagged monarchs this year.

Another successful year. I'm always a bit sad the last week of September each year as our guests stop showing up. To all of you who take time to log your reports, a big thank you!!! I always enjoy reading everyone's feedback.

God Speed Monarchs on your trip SW we will anticipate your return in March 2017.
