Monarch Waystation #271 report:
Here is an inventory taken of the monarchs in various stages found in my front yard today:
10 5th instars seen on purple, common & tropical milkweeds; 5 of them were brought inside to rear.
2 4th instars on purple and tropical milkweeds
2 green pupae found on asters; both brought in to rear
1 soft pupa found on a state wildlife habitat garden sign & left to firm up
1 pupa on kitchen window frame and brought in to rear
1 J cat found on Portulaca & brought in; became a pupa later in the day
1 pupa found on the eave soffit on wall shared with east neighbor, left because too high to fetch without ladder
1 pupa found on east neighbor's soffit next to roof downspout & brought in to rear
1 pupa found on east neighbor's window frame and left.
1 pupa found on west neighbor's hose reel and brought in to rear
1 pupa found on a front pot rim & brought in to rear
1 pupa found on another front pot rim, still soft, left to firm up
1 diseased jet black pupa found on Rudbeckia in small front bed, bagged and frozen to discard later.
