Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 09/25/2016

Number: 400

We pulled over at Caney Fork Overlook (elevation 5650) just north of the highest peak on the Blue Ridge Parkway and couldn't believe our eyes. It was around 5pm and there were hundreds of Monarchs feeding on the asters. Although it was warm and sunny, the rain could be seen off in the distance. It was certainly a great day seeing these Monarchs as well as the many others we saw today along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, NC.
