I raised 11 Monarchs this year. 3 were raised from eggs & 8 from caterpillars. 3 were female and 8 male. First released 8-9 and last 9-21. One chrysalis dried up and never opened. I gathered many eggs that didn't hatch. Last year most all my eggs hatched. Most of my Monarchs this year started out as caterpillars that I found.
Today I found a half grown caterpillar which seemed to be trying to make a chrysalis on a milkweed leaf.
