I noticed many monarch butterflies at Kitt Peak National Observatory, elevation 6800 ft MSL, on Sep 21, 2016. There were too many to count. I easily saw 10+ walking from my telescope dome to the cafeteria for lunch.
I'd say I saw two groups of 10 to 20 up there. One group was indeed going to and from flowers along the main road. If it helps the time of day was the lunch hour. I was paying attention to the flying individuals. If they were spending a lot of time on the flowers feeding, I did not notice.
