We have a corner of our garden that is sheltered on the north and west by 6-foot fences and some shrubbery, and we've planted tithonia and tropical milkweed there. On this very windy Monday, monarch butterflies were concentrated there, with often four of them on a single tithonia plant, jockeying for position on the flowers. There were also monarchs flying around other parts of the garden, but the majority stayed in the protected corner. They were nectaring on tithonia, tropical milkweed, and once on a marigold.
