Last night was 48 degrees. This am when I walked between the woods and the pasture it was sunny. I saw at least 5 Monarchs. They were sunning and feeding and flying on the east side of the deciduous woods, a brisk wind coming from the west, sheltering. I have a picture of 3 clustered on the purple blossom of a thistle, and one on clover blossom. There's clover in the pasture, mainly on edges, same with thistle, copious drying milkweed too. Some just opened their wings to warm. I made several passes as I did some chores. I think they had just come out of chrysalis, because they were clutzy flyers at first, and much better several hours later. Could be warmth too. So beautiful!
