On a visit to the butterfly garden I found 11 monarchs on the small group of asters below and a total of 22 monarchs in the garden. Later, I counted another 18 flying south across the road I was driving. This is the most monarchs I have seen around Monona this year. It is unusual to see this number here at the end of September.
