Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 09/28/2016

Number: 1

Our little guest continues to enjoy Lantana, Petunias, Black and blue Salvia, Vermillionaire Cuphea, and Fuschia, Zinnia Purple Prince. Flowers are her primary preference, with some visits to the nectar feeder. Rainy, 58 degrees, she called it a day and went to bed about 7:30 last night. Her appearance is sleek, robust. My hummingbird guests have usually migrated by 9-27. There are still red flags flying in the habitat to welcome "tardy birds" and feeders are still in place. I follow the tradition of keeping feeders available, clean and full for a least 2 weeks after seeing the last hummingbird. It looks like our feeders will be available until mid October this year. It's always an honor and a pleasure to welcome any hummingbird who may need nectar, shelter, rest.
