Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 08/31/2016

Number: 1

This caterpillar was on the ground amongst the milkweed at my farm in rural Indiana. Last year we had many many monarchs. This year I saw only this one. I feared it was dead, but placed it on a leaf. (See pic). Never saw any monarchs the rest of this season. We have several stands of native milkweed, and many plants looked withered and dead. Our summer was brutally hot.
