Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/29/2016

Number: 3

we still have 3 females visiting several times a day, everyone else, including the Monarch Butterflies, seem to have left just after Labor Day. I can't really tell if these are travelling visitors, feeding & resting before going on the big fly over the Gulf, or if these are first generation girls, hatched here this summer & reluctant to leave.. sometimes they seem more skittish around us than our "regulars", but seem to settle down pretty quickly..after a very late, slow arrival, I believe we ended up with more Hummers than I've EVER seen here before, easily 20 at a time visible at 8-12 feeders! They also seem to have left abruptly, normally I notice an increase in feeding before they go, like they all come to say goodbye, but it was so crazy at the peak of activity, that I missed the signs of their frantic final feed! Already missing them, but I have much appreciation for my remaining 3.. I believe I've seen them stay into mid-October as the latest date since I began to track them.
