Special comment - we had an adult female emerge on Wednesday, 9/28/16, but her right upper and lower wings did not completely unfold and she was unable to fly. We kept her in the rearing station overnight then put her out in the sun Thursday on asters in hopes that she would complete the process. They were still folded over on Friday, so I decided to attempt a wing clip at the folds. She was then able to fly about three feet but was unbalanced. I proceeded to trim the left side upper wing to balance out with the right and after warming up in the sun again, she was able to fly up into the trees and I saw her a few hours later taking nectar from a butterfly bush in the garden. I wish I could load the short video clip I have of her flying and on the butterfly bush flowers! She then flew on her way!! Success!!
