We just spent 2 and 1/2 days in Buxton, NC hoping to see monarchs migrating down the Outer Banks. But this year we saw none from Ocracoke to Nags Head. though we thought we saw one flying across the Pamlico Sound while crossing on the Cedar Island ferry. On the drive back to Morehead City we stopped at a state planted wildflower field along hwy 64 in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge just west of Manns Harbor. There we saw about 4 and we were able to tag 2, one male and one female. The female was the first female of the 14 monarchs we've been able to tag this season.
