It was a beautiful sunny day with winds out of the southwest early in day and becoming calm in afternoon. The temperature was mid 80s. We were visiting a St Louis park and while driving an east/west highway many monarchs were observed flying south. Same was true in gardens at the park where more than 50 were nectaring on purple asters and butterfly weed. On 30 minute ride home in afternoon, an average of a monarch a minute was observed flying south. When arriving home, there were six on zinnias in garden at one time. Photo is of three together. Fly proud!
