Hard to see in the photo but that is 1 flying by. It's above the tree line in the middle.
From 5:50 pm to 6:23 pm, I counted 82 monarchs flying west, about 100-200 yards off the shoreline. Several landed on one lone Coreopsis that hadn't been mowed. It was growing close to a tree where the mower didn't reach. Several landed on the sand.
This was incredible to witness!
When they flew by and didn't stop, they looked different than when they r fluttering around the yard.
