Today around 4:30pm I went down in the pastures looking at the milkweed and as I did that this beautiful monarch female came flying by and began nectaring on the flowering milkweed. What a joy! It was around 80 degrees F and a sunny day with shade from the trees near us. In that same patch of milkweed I found two healthy monarch larvae in the 4th or 5th instar size range. This lovely monarch had an abundance of fresh flowering milkweed to choose from and at times she rested in the trees.
