At 12:30pm I saw a female monarch variously resting, nectaring, and appearing to try to lay eggs. Not sure if she was laying eggs at that time. That afternoon around 5pm I saw the same female monarch and a bright male monarch nectaring on flowering milkweed. It was a sunny, still day around 81 degrees F and 31% humidity. This is a photo of the female looking as though she is trying to lay an egg on a fresh milkweed sprout. I could not find any laid eggs, but I was not able to check all the milkweeds she visited at that time. I did find 2 eggs later in the day on other milkweed, but not sure if they were hers.
