One newly minted (wild) female monarch found near my milkweed--she was hanging with wings down initially resting so I am fairly certain she was one of the caterpillars I observed in my outdoors milkweed patch a couple of weeks ago that had just emerged. She moved to some flowers I have blooming--black and blue salvia, montauk daisies (just came out late due to summer drought), verbena bonareinsis and gaura. After feeding about an hour she flew south climbing to about 35 feet. I hope she makes the migration safely despite her late start!
Weather 68 sunny, light breezes. Low was mid 50s.
