Scattered through liatris over several acres. Most Liatris was within tall prairie grass preventing easy sightings at a distance. In addition other Butterfly species were present that can look like Monarchs at a distance. This is direct sighting only. No scaling from a sample.

Photo shows one Monarch and one Not. Agraulis vanillae which is the same size and similar shade of orange as a Monarach, and has similar flight style while working flowers.
