I hurried home from work at 1 anxious to see if the remarkable flow of migrating monarchs stopping to nectar on the sunflowers would continue today. Calm wind. Sun. 70 degrees F. Perfect weather to be aloft. There were none. I checked the NEXRAD radar and saw the telltale “doughnuts” of migration. But at 3:30 p.m. she floated down from the sky like a falling leaf and immediately began dipping in and out of the flower heads to sip nectar. She marks the 27th day of the past 39 in which one or more monarchs have stopped by. The 70 degree days end today. It has been a glorious time.
